Allowing Our Inner Light To Shine

"Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell." – Psalm 43:3

What makes you come alive? What brings out your brightest smile? I would like to encourage you to connect with "it" and be determined to stay engaged with your passions. Life does not always hand us what we want, but even when we're in a place we would rather not be, we can still find ways to let our inner light shine. In fact, the challenge is to be the light when everything else demands otherwise. Whether it's at work (where dealing with collegues and bosses is a challenge), or at home (where a personal relationship may be going sour), or at school (where you can't seem to get those grades up), I would like to encourage you to dig deep and come up with your brightest smile.

We all have a circle of influence i.e. people who look up to us. You never know who is depending on you for a kind word, a bright smile, an encouraging hug; even that person who's giving you a hard time may be disarmed by a soft tone in your voice and positive words infused with love during a misunderstanding. Don't let the grind of daily life take away from the essence of "you".

And yes, sometimes we give, give and then give … and it feels like there's no end to daily demands on our time and efforts; times when the energy is running low and we begin to feel out of sorts – when the body says "stop please", but the mind refuses to slow down. Remember that it is a sign of strength to make yourself pause and take time off.

Step back and take a break inorder to replenish and refill … whether it's 15 – 30 minutes a day, a couple of hours of alone time, a walk in the fresh air, a pleasant conversation with a loved one about nothing, or even an inpromptu stop at a Group Home to read a book to a disabled patient. You are sure to feel better, and yes, the world is not going to come to an end!

Rejuvenate and re-align. The more light you have coming from within, the brighter you shine and the more people around you will be touched by the spirit of God that resides in you.

In the words of Rihanna, "… shine bright like a diamond!"

"It's wonderful when you can bring sparkle into people's lives without fading away from your own true color. Keep the hue in you." – Dodinsky

"Attitudes are contagious. Are yours worth catching?" – Dennis and Wendy Mannering

"Oh, my friend, it's not what they take away from you that counts.  It's what you do with what you have left." – Hubert Humphrey
