The Woman Who Fears The Lord
Who is your role model; that person you aspire to be like?
Most of us set high standards in life especially for ourselves … I know I do. In as much as we're all flawed as human beings, falling short of perfection every single time, those amongst us who exibit character tend to stand out. Personally, I continue to be inspired by hardworking individuals who set out to make a difference and change lives through their works.
My role model – someone I ultimately want to be like, has to be a very special person. I will tell you about her: I first learned about her and began to study her in my twenties after I just moved to the United States. In my search for stability and a better understanding of this society, I tried several things , constantly searching for my niche. One day, my husband’s aunt Hannah mentioned this lady to me in passing.
I went back home that day and turned to that passage and was forever hooked – yes, I wanted to be like her. I am not there yet, but everyday I learn. Even when I find myself faltering, I strive to emulate her. She is a constant reminder of how God wants me to be. The best thing about her, is that she reminds me of my mother.
She is the Virtuous Woman in Proverbs 31:10-31
She is to be trusted (verses 10-12)
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.
She is hardworking (verses 13-19)
She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.
She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar.
She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.
She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.
She is giving (verses 20-22)
She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
She is respected (verses 23-27)
Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
She is loved by her family (verses 28-31)
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
Everyone should have a role model. My faith drives and directs me, which is why I found my role model in the bible. To all ladies of character, you greatly inspire me as well.
