I read this story when I just started out in Network Marketing. It encouraged and inspired me because it talks about how often we overlook the treasures inside of us and around us, in pursuit of that which we may never find. The reason why I love it, is that it is timeless and happens over and over again. It is said to be a story.
The story was about a farmer who lived in Africa at the time when diamonds where being discovered. He got excited when a visitor told him diamonds were already being discovered in abundance on the African continent and men were making millions of dollars. He decided to sell his farm for practically nothing to head out to the diamond line. For years, he wandered all over the continent, constantly searching for diamonds, wealth, which he never found. Finally, penniless, his health failing, and very unhappy, he threw himself into a river and drowned.
Meanwhile, the man who had bought the farm from him found an unusual looking rock at the bottom of a stream running through the farm. It was about the size of a country egg. It was so beautiful; he put it on his mantle for decoration.
